F.A.Q

What are the limits on works that can be shown or made at the Crow's Nest?

For full transparency, we want artists in residence to be aware of the following limits:

  • Our space is a historic building! This means we do not have ventilation suitable to the production of oil painting, or any other medium that may generate toxic fumes. We also cannot accommodate spraying of fixative, or storage of any combustible materials.

  • We are positioned directly on Mulberry street. Work needs to be able to fit through a standard residential door, or be broken down into parts that will fit.

We are still happy to show completed oil paintings, etc in our exhibits. Our concerns remains materials potentially damaging the building. As such, in our gallery we cannot accept any artworks that would attract pests. Unfortunately, this is most bio-art. We are still happy to hear proposals of bio-art with a safety plan, please feel free to reach out to staff before sending a formal proposal if you believe your work may be in a grey area.

Does the Crow's Nest have a generative AI policy?

The Crow's Nest asks that all artists who submit to exhibits confirm that they did not use generative AI in any stage of their artwork or writing. We are very concerned about the environmental impact of gen-AI alongside the predatory relationship of major LLM's to artists.

As it stands, The Crow's Nest has never and will never knowingly use gen-AI in our operations.

How accessible is the Crow's Nest?

We are a narrow historic building, and unfortunately have limited options for accessibility at this time. To access our gallery, there are 6 steps off the street (and 1 interior step). All studios require staircase access.

We are committed to remaining COVID conscious and will recommend masks for events that are likely to be high-traffic or during a high-risk time. We are also happy to recommend masking for an event at an artists' request. Generally, we have spare KN95 masks available in the building. We recognize masking is a personal decision.

What are your operating hours?

The Crow's Nest is operated entirely by part-time staff on a hybrid basis. Visits or meetings should be scheduled in advance. Please expect at least 48 hrs for an email response during a normal work-week.
