PROPOSE A SOLO OR GROUP SHOW

Overview:

The Crow’s Nest is accepting proposals on a rolling basis for our 2026-27 season. We are looking for Solo and Small Group show propositions from artists and curators that generally align with our mission: supporting artwork that addresses the climate crisis & environmental injustice.

We are particularly interested in the following:

  • solutions-centric work

  • work that is specific to our region

  • themes that tie the climate crisis to liberation movements

  • proposals that can activate different audiences, for example: child friendly, community oriented, or actionable activism.

  • uplifting marginalized artists and early career artists.

We will review work beyond the highlighted interest list, this is just work that we are particularly eager to showcase. If your work connects to climate, we are interested!

Accepted Mediums & Scale Recommendations:

We are open to all media, including traditional (painting, sculpture, fiber, drawing, illustration, book arts etc) and new media (sound, photography, animation, film & video, interactive art) as well as installation work. Performance works that also have a strong visual component that can live in the gallery without the performance itself are welcome.

Restricted Mediums:

  • We cannot host nature art, and/or live plants in our space.

  • We are not interested in Generative AI-Assisted work and have serious concerns about the environmental impact of this technology at this time among other ethical concerns.

We are also welcome to proposals that include the window, but as we run a separate call for window shows, the window is not guaranteed to be offered for selected proposals. The back room may be used as a screening or event room, but is not intended to be a full gallery space and is not included in the provided layout. In general, we recommend pitching approximately 16 artworks for a show.

All works should be able to fit through a standard residential door frame. We do NOT have a loading dock or ramp.

Application Materials:
  • Curatorial/Artist Statement

  • Submitter CV

  • Artist Bio(s): if a group show, please write a shorter bio per person. (max 150 words per person for group, Approx 300 for solo artist)

  • PDF of artworks with dimensions, medium, and date, as well as whether or not the work is to be listed for sale.

  • Proposal of spatial design using the images/blueprints provided

  • Programming proposal

  • Application fee

Additional images and resources can be seen here.

Applications will not be considered complete until a $12 processing fee has been received or a fee waiver has been requested. This fee is discounted to $6 for student (undergraduate and graduate) proposals. Artists in residence at the Crow's Nest (current or former) will have this fee waived.

Application fees may be sent via venmo to @crowsnestbaltimore. An application will not be considered complete until a fee waiver has been confirmed or an application fee has been received.

Please email us at alexi@crowsnestbaltimore.com if you need the fee to be waived. Please know the fee goes directly into supporting the selected exhibits. Unless otherwise offered, this fee will only be waived on a need-based basis.

Artists not selected will remain in our database and may be contacted with other opportunities to show at the Crow’s Nest in the future.
